I've got a little system here, its a:

Dell Dimension L667r
667 Coppermine Pentium III
128MB SDRAM PC133
10GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with 6.7GB Free

I've noticed a major drop in preformance over the past few weeks. Just general computing has become slower. Things are taking longer to load, etc...

What is slowing me down, and what are some good steps to take to fix the problem?

Just a couple of ideas.......

Try disabling averything that starts up when your system boots. This is done like this:

Click Start, Run, Type "msconfig", Click OK.
Click the "Startup" tab. Write down all the programs listed that have check marks next to them. (so you can restore them later)
Click the "General" tab. Uncheck the "Load Startup Group Items" box. Click ok when asked if you want to reboot.

See if the system is quicker after you reboot. It maybe a rouge program conflicting with something that maybe slowing your system down. If this doesn`t fix your problem, follow the above steps, only checking all the checkboxes for the items you disabled.

One other thing. Run Scandisk and Defrag on your system. If you`ve got error on your disks, or they are badly fragmented, this could cause slowdown.
