Also, should an ultra DMA drive be hooked up to the "Ultra ATA 100" cable slot on an Asus A7V?

Last, how do you know if your new HDD is Ultra or not?

UDMA (more correctly Ultra DMA/33) was the upgrade of DMA, doubling the data burst rate to 33.3MB/s.

ATA and DMA are essentially the same. Now we have /66 and /100 standards and hardware that can handle them. All previous devices will work on the newer busses. That's part of the standards.

Go to the drive maker's web site to find out which standard your part number supports.
