A little on the WIDE SIDE, but thats my only negative comment. I ENJOYED THE LINUX MYTHS Nukey NDC 12-21-2000, 05:46 PM Hey, looks great Otheos, the new website looks better than the old one. I noticed that you made this site for viewers using 1024 x 768 or higher. I'm getting a scroll bar on both sides when I change the resolution to 800x600. I think you should make a little message that says the "website is best viewed at 1024x768". http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif That's what my site was intended for, viewers using resolution 1024x768 or higher. Great Job! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif TechJumper 12-21-2000, 05:47 PM Adobe GoLive---Tell us about your experience with this product. What features does it offer that you liked? What did it lack? TECHJUMPERS CRIT Very nice page. I noticed the following strengths: ---Clean, no scripting errors ---No offensive language ---Many links from the homepage ---Animation ---Custom graphics I liked the color of the tables. The dark/light grey combo go great together. I have always found that orange, surprisingly, blends well with grey. I am very interested in Astronomy, my main focus being space exploration.(A great site dealing with aliens: http://www.blackvault.com ). I would love to hear more about how you are associated with astronomy, and want to offer my help to you with your site dealing with this subject. Best of luck, Michael Morelli Rat 12-21-2000, 06:15 PM http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif Clean and quick loading..... I like. Rat... NDC 12-21-2000, 06:15 PM I use Adobe Go Live and I only have good things to say about it. Especially for people who don't want to literally type in all HTML codes. Go Live is WYSIWYG interface "What You See Is What You Get", and it's just that.... If you'd like to adjust the layout manually, you can just go into the Go Live HTML editior which will show you the source of the layout. Go Live also supports Plug-ins, JAVA, JAVA Scripts, Java Applets, etc. It has all the features to make a professional looking website. You just need to take the time to learn it. It's a bit confusing at first, but very easy to learn with a book. The best part about it is it intergrates great with other Adobe products. I make all my images in Photoshop 6 and GIF's in Image Ready 3 and place the images on the layout of Adobe Go Live. The only downside that I can think of is the price.... $299.00 otheos 12-22-2000, 02:28 AM Thank you for the feedback, I gues I am on the right track. Go Live was new to me so it took a while to adjust to the basic philisophy of how things are done. I don't thing I have seen this anywhere else but now that I am almost used to it I think it is very efficient. Indeed the downside is the price but having Photoshop6, Illustrator 9 and Acrobat 4 I though I'd bite the bullet and get Go Live as well. I have used FrontPage2000 in the past which I found very poor to use (it is a microsoft program and has all the philosophy microsoft carries in its software about doing things). I am mainly a linux user so I am not acquinted to microsoft philosophy at all (nor that I like it). As for the content, I mainly thought of having a site that I can use for reference to what I read and what I do. Unfortunately my time is limited and my previous site was to big to maintain. I want to keep this down to three maintainable pages (a bit crowded though). For TechJumper: I am a professional astronomer, doing active research (and teaching) at the University of Wales, Cardiff (UK). My main research interest is very dim galaxies which I believe are so numerous that they contribute more to the total light and mass of the universe than the very bright giant counterparts that we (easily) see everywhere. Only thing I need to prove my theory is to find those dim (low surface brightness) galaxies... so there's work for everyone. More in my page (soon to be up). BFlurie 12-22-2000, 05:55 AM Otheos, are you searching for very DISTANT, faint galaxies, or even ones that are relatively close? After getting it for 15 years, I still look forward to each new issue of Sky & Telescope. otheos 12-22-2000, 06:34 AM I get Sky&Telescope myself, it's a good read. Well, these objects are fainter than the night sky (which is actually very bright) and small. It is very difficult to detect them in high distances (if they exist). My research focuses on the nearby universe (meaning distances that we can be sure that objects within live in the same epoch as we are). I will put my site up pretty soon now that I saw all this interest, and explain what is that I do. TechJumper 12-22-2000, 08:55 AM I know what I am about to say is off the subject- but Otheos take a look at your profile. ***** Total Posts- 1079 Status- Member????????????????? You should be an Ultimate member, I saw that and almost flipped http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif BTW- YGM Michael brandon184 12-22-2000, 05:47 PM Site looks good. Clean, easy to read and easy to navigate. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif - Brandon otheos 12-23-2000, 04:05 AM Thanks again for the input. TechJumper, I may take advantage of your offer soon http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif As for my membership status, I think it shows up next to the message as Ultimate Member, but to be honest I only noticed a few months ago that it changes, lol My Astro page will be up after Xmas day sometime (my wife won't like me working over holidays so I have to pass on that). Thanks again for your interest. It gave me a boost that I honestly needed! otheos 01-01-2001, 01:03 PM My astronomy page is up. http://www.otheos.clara.net/astro.html Gene C. 01-01-2001, 03:31 PM Both of them looks great to me. and since I now live back in the woods part of the island. and can even see the stars ect the astronomy page should be usefull to me. Mungla 01-01-2001, 04:09 PM Site looks very good Otheos. My father and I are astronomy hobbyists, when we get the time. BTW, it looks like I'm not the only one here who has a subscription to Sky & Telescope! Great magazine. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif Wish I had a large telescope in the Himalayas. But hey, we take what we get! loser 01-02-2001, 07:12 AM i like i like... hey....a question.. how/where/what program did you use to make the otheos logo in the top left corner? i like that the best. otheos 01-02-2001, 08:00 AM for the graphics I used Photoshop (5.5), for the animation I used Ulead's Gif Animator.
