What programs are available that will search for spyware in my computer. Every time I login to my Hotmail acct I am getting an Internet Explorer window popping up trying to sell me everything under the sun. This just started today and I don't like it one bit.
Please help me stop this.

Hi fshanda
Here's two, in order of effectiveness:
Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoft.de/
Opt-Out: http://grc.com/optout.htm

If you don't want to see popups, disable ActiveX settings in your browser security settings.

Thanks Socalgal, Its funny you mentioned my active x controls. Today I visited the Abit sight and was prompted to download Chinese language support. I couldn't download this update because the Active x controls would not work with High security settings enabled. My security settings were only set to Medium and even when set to Low I could not complete the download. Wonder if its related. I just put this computer together and am still working out a few bugs. I'll disable the setting and see what happens.

I just ran Ad-aware 4.0 from Lavasoft and it found one instance of ad-ware in my registry. A cookie from Doubleclick which was detected and deleted. Ad-aware seems like a nice program, simple to use and effective. Should I download Opt-Out to see if Ad-aware missed anything?

The "Doubleclick" cookie is from here...what's with that?

DoubleClick is one of the big add servers on the internet. You can read about there cookie here.
DoubleClick site (http://www.doubleclick.net/us/corporate/privacy/non-identify.asp?asp_object_1=&)
If your browser is set to accept cookies, your going to get one of these pretty quickly because they are rather common. If you want you can go here and get an Opt-Out cookie.
Opt-Out (http://www.doubleclick.net/us/corporate/privacy/opt-out.asp?asp_object_1=&)

Well its back. I checked my Hotmail acct. this morning and bam another window appears for IWin.com. I ran Ad_Aware again and the troublesome cookie was back. Is Hotmail attaching this **** to my acct? I changed download Active X control to disable this morning. I will see if this helps.
Dave, If I use this opt-out cookie will it disable all cookies or just those from Doubleclick. I don't want to disable cookies in my system. I never had any problem like this before with cookies, just want this one to go away.

If you people who are annoyed by popups really want to control them, you need to get NEOPLANET. It's a browser with REAL pop up control. Goes right over top of IE and you can pick any skin you want. Personally, I love it. Check it out...can't hurt.

I dont want to advertise for any company but i got this really good program that filters out advertisements when using IE browsers.
I think it blocks out cookies and some other stuff that you might be interested to read up.

BTW i have ad-aware 4 and it works great, it found 2 regestries on my computer with spyware. also, doesn't netscape have similar functions as neoplanet? i haven't touched netscape for years, i might be wrong.
