What should refresh rates be set at or how do i determine the best one? My optimal configuration sets it to 144hz. I have a veiwsonic A90 and a geforce 2 ti.

That seems brutally high. I think most monitors only go up to like 85. Although I could be wrong. I've never seen one with the option to get higher, but that is the highest i've ever set one.

WOW superb refresh rate. Mines does 72 at 1600x1200 and 120 at 800x600 so your's is excellent.:D

85hz is the standard. Some are happy w/75 hz. The human eye doesn't notice the difference above 85hz. The higher you go in refresh rate is the same as overclocking. If you want to OC your monitor, fine, but remember....it'll burn out faster.

Well I am not so sure.....

I was told the human eye cannot tell the difference with frames rates above 25 per second because " the human eye is unable to differeniate anything higher" and I beg to differ. I cetainly notice the difference playing games and 40 frames per second is the minimum for decent gameplay.

I just do not believe what our learned freinds the scientists say. Oh, yeah, the earth is flat.:D and asbestos is a really good heat insulator, just the stuff to line school walls with.

Ammok- Your comparing "Apples and Oranges" here. There's a difference between a monitors refresh rate and a vid cards FPS. This confused me until it was explained to me quite a while ago when I first got on this site.

Yeah ok, point taken, but when I run at 120mhz the images are so much clearer and sharper. Less hazy, if you know what I mean.
Not that the image is bad at 85mhz mind, just subtly less distinct.

Hmmm......I think I'll try that. If there's a big difference, I might stick with it. But, you're still pushing the monitor to do that, and when you have a good monitor....well...I'd like to make it last as long as possible. Or, until the prices of LCD come way down!

BTW- I hope Nicholson is reading this thread!

Yes i'm reading it religously lol :D
Funny though, when I set the refresh rate higher like 100+, Unreal Tournament seems to play in slow motion. Not choppy or anything, just like the gamespeed is turned way down. wonder why?

My UT does that if i play in maximu resolution,1600x1200x32, so i drop down to 1280x1024x32 or even 16 sometimes. My card is the bottle neck, G2mx400-64mb. i need a better card.
