Ok. I just got XP pro and have some basic things I am trying to figure out.

I am trying to understand how to make aps/folders usable to only me (not my girlfriend who is a limited account).

I need to know how to do the following:

1. Install an ap (such as popup killer or zonealarm or virus software) that runs in BOTH system trays (my account and hers)

2. Install an ap that runs in ONLY my or HER system tray

3. Install software applications that don't run in the system tray that both of us can use and see in our start menus

4. Install software that doesn't run in the system tray that only one of us can see/use

5. Limit her activities on her account set-up so she cant screw anything important up (such as installing something f-ing stupid like Bonzi Buddy or Gator etc.)

What I have deduced so far (let me know if this is incorrect):

each user has their own desktop and shortcuts. If I want her to have a shortcut to a prog on her desktop, I drop the icon in there.

Each user has their own startup folder which can be used to auto execute programs on their start-up (for them only).

I also believe that there is a "system startup folder" that starts up COMMON sys tray aps.

one final important question: I have some programs that start automatically and run in the system tray but I can't find them in either my, nor hers, nor the common sys file tray. (such as mouseware and clean sweep) Where can I view EVERY APP that is auto loading at startup for the entire system and the seperate accounts?

Thanks for reading this lengthy help request.

Try using Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy > Local Policies for all sorts of nonsense.

Use MSCONFIG.EXE for Startup Programs and Services.

Have fun.

The help feature in WinXP is quite good. For file sharing, go to properties for the file and look at the sharing tab.

There is also a setting for blocking all down loads of programing and installs from the CD. If I run across it agin. I'll post back.

I didn't find it right off. Look in the group policies section in the XP help. I think it was in there when I found it.
