Ok....I was trying to flash my bios from a floppy start up disk with AWDFLASH and my updated bios.

--Started it in DOS and chose "command prompt only".

--Typed in the path leading to AWDFLASH and updated bios
(same directory)

--So far so good...AWDFLASH prompts me with "file name to program", so I type in my updated bios file name (*.bin)

--Then, AWDFLASH prompts me with "fine name to save", so I type in "oldbios.bin" (backing up old bios.)

--Ok, then Flashing Utility begin to save my old bios showing me with a progress bar.

--NOW, after it is done saving my old bios, it then says, "Source File Not Found"

My question?? What in the world did I do wrong to get that error message??

Thanks for any help you can give me,
JF

It doesn't sound like you are actually booting from the floppy. A floppy boot would take you straight to the command line (you wouldn't get the choice).

Go into your CMOS and make sure these two items are enabled:

BOOT FROM FLOPPY:
ENABLE FLOPPY SEEK AT BOOT:

or something along those lines, it might say A: instead of floppy.

or you simply mistyped the *.bin location

I put the awdflash and the new .bin file on a floppy. Then during post I hit F8 and select safe mode/command prompt only. That way flie locations are simple A:/awdflash.

Seems to work for me but some bios flash utilitys are very different.

Yes, floppy seek is enabled. I did boot from floppy because I got the 3 choices of:

1. Start with cdrom
2. Start without cdrom
3 ....and I forgot this choice but you get the picture.

I looked down at teh bottom of this screen and saw "choose F5 for command prompt only".

So, I hit F5. A:/ came up and I typed in directory of awdflash.exe. and since my new bios was in the same directory....awdflash entered in the name of my new bios (ak74esac112.bin) for me. All I had to name was the file for my old bios and I chose "oldbios.bin".

What now? I'm at a dead end.

Ok I can help a little here....My DFI AK74-SC would not write to bios following there instructions.

First I copied awdflash and the .bin to a floppy.

Then what I did was to tap F8 during normal post without the floppy disc in the drive. Then I selected
6. safe mode command prompt only.
Then inserted diskett.
C:/ (type) A:/
A:/awdflash (and from there use normaly)

Strangely enough this was the only way I could get the new bios to write to file.

DONT USE the F5 and put anouther .bin file on the floppy as well just reilized that the problem may be the autoselect bios feature. I didnt trust the little monkey face thing that came up wuth the auto select.

sorry it took a second to come to that conclusion. Forgot that I had a backup.bin on the diskette as well as the bios I was trying to program. It may just be the little monkey faced auto select.

BTW does your first post screen also have an F2 to enter bios option?...not that I trust it anymore. I am going to try a few experiments bbl.

Just for giggles I re-reflashed my bios with my way and it worked fine?????? It may just be the autoselect. With your backup .bin already on the disc you should be fine. Just stay away from the lil monkey and you should be OK.

Thanks all for helping out. Problem SOLVED <big grin>. Turned out that I was doing everything right but as Mykex posted earlier, that I might've mistyped in the .bin file to my new bios.

Thought that would be impossible since when AWDFLASH entered it in for me automatically when the Flash screen came up.

But the file name that was on my floppy was different than what it showed on my hard drive. It was typing in what was on my hard drive for some reason which was AK74esac112.bin when on my A: drive it showed as AK741129.bin......so I typed THAT in and wah lah.....updated bios!

These computers can really do a number on us.....messing with one's sanity, you know??

Thanks guys for helping me troubleshoot this thorn in my side.

BTW, Mykex, since we have hte same mobo, and I assumed you have OC'd yours, what cpu do you have and waht setting for FSB/vcore did you figure out for best stability?

Also, no way to mess with the clock multiplier except with a Golden Finger, right?

I have a Athlon TBird 750 ready to be OC'd.
Have another problem concerning FSB but will post new topic.

Uhhh I dont quite know how to say this but....ahhhhh......uhmmmmm. No

Unfortunately you will get to 103fsb and no more OC without the hands, eyes and tools of a jewler. The board has no dipswitches the only other way is to go this route http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/00q3/000711/index.html sorry but that is it.
