I dont know what these things are called and its kinda hard to describe how the sound like.
I have some mp3s that have these annoying bleeps, actually they sound more like popping sounds.

do any of you know how to get rid of this, while keeping the mp3 in good condition.

thx

it's not a hardware problem, it's the process of creating mp3s that create these pops. i have read up this problem long time ago but i was just wondering if there are anyways of getting rid of these little annoyances.
unfortunately i dont know where those articles are for you guys to read. sorry.

I can't say I'm familiar with the problem, and I've had a lot of experience with MP3's.

Check your sound card, and try listening to them with good quality headphones. If you notice that it does the same thing on any computer, it must just be an error in the software, when it was being extracted from a cd, or converted from another audio file.

heh i know for sure it's not a hardware error. it's a software error as you described during the process of extraction and ripping.
i'm suprised nobody has had any bad mp3s with pops in them.

I get those bleeps when playing certain MP3 files in WinAMP, but noticed that those bleeps don't occure in Windows Media Player. So I think it's the player problem on my side. What MP3 player are you using?

I get those pops on occasion. They're repeatable, meaning that if a song does it at a certain point, it always will. I always just delete and find a better copy.

There could be a number of reasons
1) If your ripping & compressing check the settings and experiment, especially burst speed and the bit rate.
2) If downloading with napster use the higher bitrate settings from the advanced tab. Plus you gotta remember not everybody records with the best quality preferences!
3) Just like NDC mentioned, winamp can be more prone to this, I stopped using winamp a long time ago and switched to musicmatch jukebox.

If they are actual problems with the file, you can try and decode the mp3 to a wav file and use a wav editor to soften the beeps and scratches. I had a shareware program called GoldWave (http://www.goldwave.com/index.html) just recently and it worked pretty good at removing the hisses and pops from a wav file.

I have got alot of MP3's with noise, it seems to be a normal part of MP3's. I cant be bothered with trying to fix em, I simply get a different copy until I find one with no noise in it. I even had one song that when my burning software hit it during a burn...wham....it quits and instant coaster.
Now I always try to review each song before I burn it to make sure I'm buring a clean MP3.

Eli is true about it reoccuring at a certain point in a MP3 and yes NDC i use winamp, i think i will try Sonique. Does anyone know if Sonique has the same problem?

I dont rip any MP3s, i just download them from napster and all of my MP3s are either 128 or 192 in birate. I also sort the results by file size when searching for a specific song on napster. I figured this sorting method would determine the correct average size of that specific mp3. It's kind of hard to understand but i've been using this method and have been having great success at hand picking mp3s with good quality.

i'm sure i can find that program that can get rid of the mp3 pops.

If the "bleeps" are encoded in the mp3 then your best bet is to just nuke it and find another copy. Personally I've never experienced this problem but if they're repeatable then that means it's not a hardware issue and they are part of the file. To try to extract them would most likely leave a glitch or some kind of audible artifact. Just delete them.
