My last computer worked great. I could do many things well, one of which was saving pictures from websites as .JPG images. But on my new system I can't. When I right click the picture and hit 'save as...' the folder pops up, the filename in place as say blahblah.jpg, but the file type only allows BITMAP or ART. I've been able to overcome this by 'copying' the file to clipboard, going into paint(gag) and saving it as a .bmp, then going into an el cheapo Adobe product to convert it.

I just want to be able to save what appear to be jpegs as actual jpegs without jumping through these hoops. I know someone else had a similar problem here, but the problem was not only not solved, but the people posting gave horrible advise (to reformat....oh brother). That's completely unnecessary here. Please post with some good info.

Funny. I have XP and I find that if the image is JPEG, I get JPG as the default saving format. Try the graphs here:

http://www.mmm.ucar.edu/science/abl/cases/cases_atdseries.html

See if they are presented as JPG for saving.

It is a shame that IE can't convert "on the fly" though....

Try this (http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Patch/Q318966/WXP/EN-US/Q318966_WXP_SP1_x86_ENU.exe) latest GUI update for WinXP which might just help you with your problem.

Yes I do have AOL (i know, it sucks rocks, but I don't pay for it). I did get the problem fixed.

Basicly I had this problem ~2 years ago. It has to do with the 'always compress graphics' feature within AOL. So I disabled that inside the preferences to 'never compress graphics' and this little annoyance is solved. :) Thanks for your interest guys.
