I found an old Ziff-Davis Magazine called Windows published in June of 95. I forgot how much it cost back then to try to build a computer. And it really isn't that long ago. When I look at how far we have come in such a short time it is amazing to think about. A US Robotics 28.8 V.34 Faxmodem cost $399, 16MBs of Ram $639 ( that's alot ), a 4 Gig Seagate $1,269. It's neet to look through the Magazine a read about Windows 95 Beta testing and their predictions on it. So I guess when I buy my next Ram stick or video card it won't hurt as much to upgrade. Here's one I just found that is something you'll recognize Sound Blaster Multimedia Home 4X CDW Kit $449 (this does include speakers). Just thought I share this little history I found. By the way I first learned to work on the 8080 and the 8086 chip back in 1985 and I was amazed then.

Hi! Here's one for you boys and girls!
This P.O.S. that I'm using right now was the poop back in and around 96 (?)
A jewel for sure! A digital Venturis FP 590! When I got it, it had a genuine Intel pentium processor - at a blazing 100mhz! Believe it or not, it actually has a 256k on board cache. (whew!) It arrived with 32mb ram, but I can believe it most likely had 8 when new. It was and is of course, a multi-media computer system with a CD-ROM. That means you can actually load software from one CD as opposed to say 6 or 7 floppy disks! WOW! You can also play music CD's too! It has on board video supplied by an S3 trio chipset! AMAZING is the only word that comes to mind. I don't know what speed CDROM came in it, but it presently has a 40X. It also had an ISA 14.4 modem and an ISA NIC too!
I'm kinda suprised to find that my SB Live X-Gamer works in this baby
Now I have upgraded to an Intel 166mmx overdrive chip and 80 mb ram. Could you imagine that machine in 1996?
Oh well, enough ranting, just thought I'd throw my log on the fire too.
Happy New Year!

Oh, by the way, this was like $3,500.00 when it was new. How 'bout that, huh?

BFlurie - you know it BayBie!
Been a Rush fan since, well forever! Tried and tried to find what I thought to be a cool name that would reflect that. Saw someone already had Cygnus X-1, wasn't sure about 2112, temples of Syrinx might have been cool...
Maybe la Villa Strangata?
Anyway, I settled for...
By-tor.
Happy New Year!
