Hi. I am having a problem with a new ECS K7S5A motherboard with onboard lan. It's running a 1.3 gig Atlon chip and 128 meg of PC 133 SDRAM. The power supply fan and the CPU fan run when the power is turned on, but the board will not boot. I have switched out the memory and video cards. Still no boot. This board hasn't any jumpers except one to reset the bios and another to enable keyboard hotkeys. There is one bare standoff, the others are covered by spacers.

I have built about six machines from scratch and rebuilt several others but this one has me stumped.

Help! Please.

Thanks.

Maggie

Do you get any status lights (if the mb has d-led lights) or are you getting any beep codes?

Can you get a bios screen display?

No, Jimstep. I'm not getting any beeps and nothing on the monitor. There aren't any leds on the board and the power led connector accepts three pins and there are only two availbale on the board. Could that be it?

Thanks.

The Power and HDD LED 's should not effect power up. But you will have to move a wire in the connector to get the PWR LED to work, many have had to do the same. Check your Power Button Switch P6-8 is connected correctly. You may need to turn it the other way , get the + and - correct. :)
Be sure the case fan is connected correctly.
If these are'nt it I would pull it out of the case and see if its a case ground issue. A common problem with this mobo.

something tells me your cpu is gone...Amd chip can easily be damaged if when installing your fan,you exerted more than necessary force.take out your fan and check if theres a scratch at the CPU back,if you have any then astala vista.if not then you will have to remove the wire the 3pin connector to the proper one.at any rate you may have to do this .its easy, use your screwdriver to push the lead portion on the plastic head of the connector and it will slide out.push it back to the appropriate pin.lastly try another case or cpu.good luck

Thanks, Rocketmech. I'll look at those issues this morning.

If you still have problems, go here:

http://forum.ocworkbench.com/ocwbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=27

They only talk about your board.
Do a search for lan and you will find the answer at that board. If that fails, post your question and you will have plenty of replies.

Maybe you can flash to a newer bios to solve the problem, also

ECS has a lan repair utility on their website. It requires that you reprogram the lan. I can't give the exact link because the site will not let me, but in the driver section of this page is the Lan flash

Thank, everyone, for your help. In the end it was the CPU that wasn't seated properly. I bought the mobo/CPU kit. I've returned it and I'm back together again.

Thanks, again.

That one has gotten me before too!
