i recently bought a hp pavilion 310n home computer. it came preloaded with XP but after having so many many problems with the os, i downgraded to 98se. now i have no sound and hp techs will not help because i evidently voided my warrenty when i changed os....sigh. the computer did not come with a xp cd or a system recovery disk as they had it on the computer behind a partition...bigger sigh. all i need to know is what type of motherboard i have as evidently i have onboard sound and need to find the darn drivers for it. any help would be appreciated. any help at all.

thank you

Welcome to SysOpt

Someone may come along that knows what board it is, or knows how to find out... I am at a loss both ways.

What you may be able to do is, go download and install the freebie version of Sisoft Sandra, install it, then run the system summary or mainboard information. This may give you the make and model of the board.

The free (shareware) version is SiSoftware Sandra Standard.

Hopefully this will work for you, and it should...unless HP has had the board mfr. change the data in the ID chip where it would normally give you the name, make/model & version no of the board.

If Sandra doesn't help. Try beleric advisor. This (http://www.belarc.com/Download.html) is the down load page for it. It will try start to download when you go to this page. Just tell it where to go to.
My guess on your sound drivers would be AC97 that seems to be the most used sound system for built ins.

You may order a Recovery CD set by calling HP Customer Care at (208) 323-2551. The cost of the Recovery CD set is $9.95. The price covers the cost of producing and shipping the CDs.
You would then have the original drivers for your system.
