hi,
i have ghost 5.1c and need to do a whole disk image to file.
file to reside on cdr (drive e:). have made a few coasters because of the fact that rwsulting file is larger than cdr.
here are the commands in the @text.txt file i have.. i am hoping my order is wrong.
-span
-split=605
-autoname
-clone,dump,src=2,dst=e:bkp.gho
this is to backup all of d: drive to cdr
ps. i have adaptec direct cd running and format the cdr disk just before starting, then when full i eject and format the next one..
any ideas?

I read your post and saw that u have Ghost ver 5.1b. I have 6.0 ver, and don't have the option of copying to a burner...how is it that u can in ver 5.1b? Shouldn't a later version, as mine, have that option? Are u sure that u can? JUst curious:)

positive... there are some rules though.
1. you can't image an "in use" drive
2. you need to be able to access the cd-rw as a drive letter
3. you need to do it from windows so the cdrw software works
i can do images that compress to 1 disk (680mb) with no problem
the issue is spanning more than 1 cd. there aren't enough examples in the documentation for that.

I cannot do it through windows, my Ghost software is on a floppy and can only be done in Dos.
Curious again..what do u mean by number 1 of your above notes?
I do have adaptec Create CD software version 4.05.

He means that you cannot image C: to a file while you're in Windows. While this is true of Ghost 6 and 7, the previous Ghosts could be used in Win9X to image any drive. To restore a partition, you still had to boot from floppy though.

version 5.1 works with win9x and scsi tape devices etc. just curious do the later versions have the "ghost.exe" executable?
with 5.1 you can in fact copy the ghost.exe to a folder and execute from windows. in fact 5.1 WILL image the drive it is on but the destination must be a different physical drive. i can do what i am doing to the network drives but then i have to have basic win installed to access the network.
currently i use ghost to back up new system installs. we have 5 computers (from a pentium II 333 to a kt7raid w/duron850 as a server) twin teens and a wife that likes to chat was the reason for that. anyway i have found that making a bootable cdr with ghost and the image on it works wonders for all the junk the kids put on. when the machines they use get "hosed" i just pop in the cd and restore them. lately i have been trying to do the "backups after i install the "usual" programs they use / play. i hit the "bump" in the road though because the image file is now over 800 meg. i have been told that what i seek is possible it has to do with the order of commands in the command file.
thanks for the info bill

just curious do the later versions have the "ghost.exe" executable No...it's GHOSTPE.EXE in 6 & 7. The PE stands for Personal Edition and has been neutered.

ever notice how "new and improved" means less and fewer features?
