I was just wondering how can I enable this new burnproof technology because I'm burning lots of CDs and every so often my CD brokes. I heard that when you bust your CD you can just restart recording and CD-ROM will pickup where it was last ended. I'm using different recording software like EasyCD Creator, Nero 5.0 and WinOn CD.
Please help. Thank you.

I have the Plextor 12/10/32 CD-RW and love it.
From my understanding of "Burn-Proof", this technology is in hardware and is always working, it prevents buffer-underruns by making sure the memory buffer is always full when the laser is writing to the CD...if the buffer empties the laser waits until the buffer fills again and then continues writing to the CD.
I've written CD's while on-line, with Seti@Home running and Norton AV auto protect on and haven't had a bad CD yet.
The "pick up where it left off" process applies only to a particular writing session... if you exit Nero or Easy CD Creator and then re-open either program and try to resume a burn from the point you stopped it won't work. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Just got my 12x Plextor for x-mas. Came with Plextor/Adaptec software. Under DiscDupe 2000, there is a checkbox for burnproof. Made a full audio cd at 12x in under 5 minutes! Yippeee....

I had the Plextor 8/4/32 for the past 3 weeks. Sold it and got the 12/10/32A instead http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Burn-Proof Technology rocks mama! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/biggrin.gif
With the Plextor, the technology is implemented in hardware I believe

Mike,
Do you mean there is a SCSI version of the Plextor with the burn proof technology? I haven't seen that. Where did you pick it up?

Yep, there's a scsi version of the burn proof 12x10x32. Both internal and external. I bought the internal scsi and an adaptec 2930u scsi card. IT works like a charm. Here are some links. I picked up the drive, for $299 at onvia.com, and its the retial box. ANd the scsi card at egghead for $88 and that was also the retail box. Got free shipping on both too.
Here are some links:

Both are 299.
Have fun.

I'm late on this one. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
The burn-proof technology must be hardwired into the burner. I'm using the 12/10/32S and did not install any of the included software, and burn-proof shows up in the burn dialog.
Yep, Plextor SCSI rocks. I burn with Nero 5.0.3.1, which also rocks http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Its wierd...
Ive gotten coasters with Adaptec and Sony eXtreme, with burn proof on (I wasnt even Quaking or nothing, just IMing, ICQing and surfing). However, I cant get one with Nero no matter how hard I try.

When I had the Plextor 8432 IDE CDRW and the Plextor UW 40x SCSI CDROM, where the UW is attached to its native 68-pin connections all works fine.
But now that I've put a 68-50pin convertor onto the UW CDROM and segmented it onto its own channel on the 19160 Adaptec SCSI controller I've gotten buffer underruns constantly, why's that? Is it because of the 68-50pin convertor that's causing trouble?
Now that I've just installed the Plextor 12/10/32A IDE CDRW with BurnProof Technology I no longer see coasters but still the drive buffer fluctuates greatly all the way down to 15%. Such fluctuations will slow down the burn process correct if its consistent enough?
I'd hate to put the UW back onto the 68-pin 160 channel as thats where my Atlas 10K II is and will definetly slow it down with a ceiling of only 40mpbs
Any ideas guys?
Thanks in advance,
Plucky

On my Plextor I ussualy play Unreal Tournament and play some mp3. It hasn't busted not even one CD since I got it.
Burnproof is the greatest thing ever created in CD burning.
Plucky, fluctuations in your buffer shouldn't worry you because performance loss is very little.
Think of this like:
When you burn your CD the most important thing is to keep your writting constant because it will bust your CD. When your buffer is at least 5% (my guess) full you shouldn't worry about it. If you have burnproof activated you shoudn't worry about it at all because it will continue your writting even when your buffer is empty, stops to refill and goes on where it has last stopped.
I get fluctuations also every so often.
Maybe you can resolve that with increasing memory buffer in your software (e.g. Nero has automatic and manual config).
If I'm wrong I'm ready for corrections. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

According to Rob Rich's article on this burner you get best results when using Plextor's disc dupe which reduces cpu utilisation considerably, allowing better multitasking while burning. Personally I've noticed the difference in performance when compared to using say adaptec.

Also you must have DMA enabled for best results.
