I just built me a Tbird 900 box down here in Florida and I'm trying to figure out the best way to take it on the plane with me back to NY. I'm really reluctant to have it go down in the plane's cargo area because I have a bad feeling something is going to get damaged. Those guys who handle the baggage and stuff don't care about anything and just throw sh*t around, no matter what it is. Now I'd rather take it on the plane with me but I think a mid-tower case inside a box would be too big... no? Can someone help me out here who has had to go through this before or someone who just has a better solution?
Also, could those x-ray thingies possibly damage any of the computer components?

I suggest you measure your box and call the airline.

Or you could just mail it to yourself (UPS or FedEx). Thats what I would do anyway.

I agree, depends on the airline. I bought a 6 disc Toshiba DVD player(about the size of a midtower) in LA and took it carry on(American Airlines) all the way back to Ottawa.
A friend gives his a layer of bubble wrap and a duct tape handle. Then he carries it onboard and tucks it under his seat.
I agree with BDAWBTP, I'd Fed-Ex it to myself with insurance, if it gets damaged, you got the insurance. Fed-Ex is the best for gentle handlers.

I don't know if anyone else saw the news piece they had on Ch.7 just before Christmas about NorthWest Airlines' baggage and mail handlers... they were tossing peoples boxes around like they were basketballs. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
I wouldn't trust 'em with my comp!

Its going on the plane with me. If they say its too big then too bad for them; they're going to have to remove me from the plane! =P
