Hi,

I have a old motherboard which is a Socket 3 Motherboard.

The Chipset is a UMC 8881.

The problem i am having is when i boot up it keeps saying
cmos check error - default setting restored.

It keeps on saying this everytime. I checked the motherboard and it has no battery for the cmos. Can someone find a manual or know what to do now?

Thanks,

Alex.

It sure does have to have a battery somewhere.
Either it's a cylindrical accumulator soldered on, in front of the rightmost ISA slot, or it has one of those nasty battery-on-the-chip black plastic blocks. Replacing either requires soldering.

Or it's old enough to require a separate battery block connected to a 4-pin header on the mainboard.
