For some crazy i favor the underdog, That is one of the reasons I picked AMD to build my systems. When i was going to build my systems I take into Consideration $$$$.Think about it,I bought an AMD 1 gig T-Bird for lets say $250 I could only get a 700 pentium for the same price.Humm I am not rocket sciencetist but that seems like a deal to me.The performance between the amd chip and the pentium are the same. Why would you spend all that cash for a name. ???%$&()((&&*

I agree with you whole-heartedly, except for one thing, you mentioned that "the performance between the amd chip and the pentium are the same." This is not so. But it only upholds you point even more. AMD chips *typiclly* outrun, outperform, and over all, outdo the intel chips, even at the same speed and/or configs. And since i got my free shirt from AMD today, and NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING from intel, AMD wins, yippi. Also, AMD will send you free bezel stickers, I'm not sure if intel will or not, but...uh....AMD rocks....hehehe. But, although i favor AMD muchly, that's a CURRENT choise. If Intel produces a killer chip i can't live without, I'll buy it. Or if they got their prices down to AMD level, then i would consider them more. But right now i don't, except for the fact that I'm gonna set up a Celeron system from my Christmas money. But that's just because i stole an old proc. from a friend. HEHEHE, Intel has been reduced to useless trash. But actually they are both good companies, and make good products, *most of the time*
If you have it done, I'd be interested in the specs of that/those AMD based systems you got. I'm one of those people who can't make decisions.

I imagine that if one was unfamiliar with computers, one would be more comfortable buying a computer with a bigger-name chip. That's how a place I worked for bought their computers. They just looked for the biggest name brand and figured they were the best.

As if CPU power was the only thing that matters...
- get lot's of memory, at least 256MB
- get a rip-snorting fast video card
- get a rip-snorting fast hard disk -Ulrta ATA 100 may be a nice budget alternative but there is nothing quite like SCSI - Ultra SCSI-3 /160 screams..
And for those reasons I choose AMD - I have enough left over so that I can afford 512MB of SDRAM, a TNT2 or Geforce, and Ultra SCSI3
