I bought a 1 gig intel processor and a Biostar M6VCF Motherboard.I took my case to a computer shop and gave them all my parts and paid them to assemble it.

They showed me the setup in dos when i went to pick it up and said i just had to set up my operating system.

When i turned it on at my home the screen was black ,nothing would come up.I had 2 systems so I knew the monitor was fine.I tried the new system on my other monitor and same thing.

So I went arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! I took the savage 4 video card out and put in my dinosaur 2mb video card and when i booted the system it works fine with that video card.So what is the problem??And why did the shop get it to work in dos with the savage 4 when it did zip for me??

Did you try the savage in the board again?.. i find that after travelling with my box, i usually have to push the video card back in, coz it shakes out a little, just enuf so that no signal comes...

AGP video cards are especially bad about this. Look at the contacts on any AGP card...see how small they are?...now look at how the contacts are positioned, one sandwitched in between the next and above the two on the sides. If the card rises up just a bit, it will either bridge out the contacts in the AGP socket or miss the one it was supposed to be making contact with all together.

When installing an AGP card, take care that it sits flat down in the socket, front to rear...and that the mounting bracket where the screw is located is flat down and flush with the case frame without any forcing. If the mounting bracket does not mate flush with the case, it will be necessary to bend the bracket a little until it does, because if it does not fit properly, and the screw pulls it down flush, this action will place a upwards strain at the rear of the card, forcing the rear of the card to rise up at the rear and not make contact properly.
