My internet service, earthlink, has done many things to me that have proven how worthless they are as a company. I need to switch.

Who do you use?
I am willing to pay as much as 14 dollars a month for 56k internet access.

Thanks,

Mike

I started with IBM.net that was bought out by AT&T. PcWorld has allways rated "them" in their top ten review section. You might want to read though reviews like this. They rate them by several standards. Things like how long does it take an email to get from point a to b etc...

Techmember, I admire you for wanting to pay no more than 14bucks for dialup service. Just think, millions for paying $22 for slow dialup AOL, What a joke! I have been using Netzero (free) but I am going to give Bluelight.com a try. I cannot see paying anything for dialup unless there is no other choice. I will suffer till DSL comes in my area.

RL, I just read an article that bluelight.com is now only going to be free for the first 25hrs per month.
Tech, I've been seeing TV ads that AT&T is around $5 a month.

Don't know where you are buddy, but here are the two I use:
www.paclink.net (http://www.paclink.net) -$9.95 /mo
www.rampageusa.com (http://www.rampageusa.com) -$9.95 /mo (I havent checked lately)

Of the two Paclink is better for me most of the time but I use Rampage when the other is running like a turtle.

keep in mind that every dialup has slowdown during high traffic, and things can vary greatly depending on your local access number

Try checking your areas phonebook, found a little local company for a neighbor after he battled with the "free" services for awhile, 100$ for the year (paid in advance), the people treat him REAL well, and he connects at 52k on a regular basis, they even sent him a personal Xmas card via snailmail, I doubt Earthlink does that...(what happened to Elink anyway? they used to be about the best?)

I am using Juno web. It is $9.95/mo. Although it is not the fastest i've seen, I never have any problems connecting

ATT has an unlimited access plan for $5/month but has a smallish add banner--it is much less intrusive( about 1/3 the size) compared to the "free" isps....seems to work well here in Boston, Mass area.

Hi techjumper, I am only mentioning this in case you have more than one person in the house paying for internet dial-up service.
Att@home is good in a roommate situation. The reason is that the basic service is $39.95 but you can have up to 5 ips per account. Extra ips are only $5 bucks a pop. You can then split the cost of the high-speed internet access between you all which brings the cost down to a ridiculously small amount.

I don't know if you have roommates or separate internet accounts at your house, or whether or not cable is available in your area. I just thought I'd toss that in for the hell of it in case.

I use Charter pipeline..

24.95 a month for cable access/e-mail etc..
2.95 a month to rent the modem..

I think it's a pretty good deal.. don't get real fast downloads.. about 60-70k/s (beats my old dialup i had).. and uploads I get 50k/s upload..

I was very happy with Liberty Bay (http://www.libertybay.com) but recently had to switch.

It wasn't their fault but Verizon changed my regional calling area and as a result they are no a longer local call.

Liberyt Bay told me that next upgrade when they get new numbers that will change. If it does I'll go back. I've been using Juno for the last 2 months and am not happy.

If they have a local to you than look into them at $8.95 a month and never a busy signal it was definately worth it.
