I was wondering about the asus P4T-M SOCKET 423 PGA I850. I looked on their site and saw the features for the 478 boards. The 478 supposedly have extreme overclocking ability- whatever that is.... I want to know if getting that P4t-M for my 1.4 gig P4 pga423 will work to let me overclock.

I asked around in the overclocking channel but this seems like a mobo problem.

I just want to get a board that will let me overclock.

Thanks

Welcome to SysOpt.
If you haven't got the processor yet, don't get it!
PIV Socket 423 production was discontinued, but maybe you can still find it...
In the choice of your mobo, here's my advise:
ASUSTek is ASUSTek!
And I'm not doing propaganda!

If you want to use an Asus P4 motherboard to overclock I would suggest a P4S333 or a P4S533. The P4S333 has a huge following. I would suggest a "Northwood" processor. The 1.6Gig has the best overclock record. There is plenty of information available in the discussion groups at www.asusboards.com.

Or you could get the P4T-E and see the P4 perform like it should with rdram instead of worrying about ddr. Rdram o'clocks well! Mine is at 120mhzfsb no prob. And can go to 133mhz if I get a Nortwood. See with rdram you just bump it from a 4x to 3x which in turn makes it still 400mhz at 133fsb, works out very well and doesnt O'clock the ram at all. Seeing how a DDR board cripples the P4 I would skip right over the whole ddr option all together. It takes a P4 2.0 on DDR to = a P4 1.8 on rdram. And that is just the cpu performance then you think about the bandwidth and rdram wins hands down! Just my 2-cents on the DDR option!
