I was reading an article about setting up a network and it said that if you are running WIndows 2000, each computer must have at least 2 NICs each. Why???? I have both my computers hooked up to a 5 port switch but its not working -- I only have one NIC in each.

Can you be a little more specific about what isn't working? No link light on the hubs? Can't ping each other? Can't the see each other in My Network Places? Can the see each other in My Network Places but not open files? ICS doesn't work?

The hub is working great, it lights up and I also have my cable modem hooked up to it and that is working just fine.

However, the computers can't see each other in My Network Places.

File sharing is turned on, and in the properties of my drives, they are all shared. But when I do a search for other computers, nothing shows up.:(

I'm having this problem except.......

I have my machine, Win2K with 2NICs sharing internet to the other machine, a Win98SE box.

The Win98SE machine can see my computer in network neighbourhood but when I try to access the Win2K computer it asks me for a password, I didnt put any password in anywhere as far as I remember.I have tried using the logon password for the Win2K machine at startup, no luck.
Also the Win2K machine can't see the Win98SE one in network neighourhood but they must be communicating because the ICS is working and the 98SE computer can access the internet............

I've only had 2K installed for a few days thats probably why I havent figured how to share files out yet, but hey, its more complicated than when both machines were on Win98SE.

1. Are both machines in the same workgroup?
2. You must have the same user accounts/passwords on both machines.
3. On 2000, the administrators account is automatically created during installation. You are prompted to give it a password during the installation. You will need to create the same account on the Win98 machine and use it to log on with
