basic firewall question

hi , may be a stupid question but ,
I use a dial up service do I need a firewall ? or are they only needed for constantly on internet connections.

No you don't. Modem connections are usually assigned a different IP address each time they dial in. Only a fool of a hacker would bother trying to get into a PC with such a connection.
