Hey guys! Recently acquired a Toshiba DVD/CDRW COMBO. It's working great right now, I have created music cd's, backed up some data, etc. The thing is that I went to Blockbuster's to rent a dvd movie (Final Destination---great stuff) but the player (PowerDVD) has a choppy playback, like if it is dropping frames! Should I try another player? or is this the best one?
Should I use a ATA66 cable to improve performance?
I don't know how to make it better!..
Here are my system specs:
PCChips M598lmr
AMD K6-2 500mhz
128 MB Ram
Voodoo 3 2000 PCI
Generic 48x CDROM
Toshiba DVD/CDRW combo (4x, 4x, 24x)
etc..
P.S. Is there a Voodoo software DVD player dependent on the card and not on the cpu???

I have similar Toshiba DVD player[powerdvd] and my system specs are close to yours. Same problem! Works great otherwise -dvd games etc. Our specs are advertised as "A" performance.....Beauty in the eye of the beholder. I wonder if there is a better way rather than a card?

You can probably find a solution at this site; http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/support/index.html

Not sure this will help, but I have a Hi-Val 10x40 DVD and have both "InterVideo WinDVD" and "Cyberlink Power DVD". I found out early that I didn't care much for the WinDVD, but I sure like the Power DVD!
I got a 600e@800 and a Acer 10x dvd, I also use Cyberlink dvd software and it works good, not choppy at all. Also got a Hollywood plus tv out card - looks good on tv.

I have a pioneer 10x dvd and running dual-boot, in Windows 2000 the playback was choppy, but in Windows ME it was very smooth at 1600 x 1220 full-screen.
I installed ATA-66 and now playback is extremely smooth in both 2k and ME.
My specs are PIII 550, 256MB RAM, 36GB HDD, 10X DVD, 16MB AGP.

So you think the higher transfer rates helps the DVD player??? ... I hope it will..!

I tried WinDVD but the same results!
The only player that had good video was a Cinemaster player. It had perfect video, but the audio was the one who was skipping!!!
DDDAAAMMNN<<!!! hehehe
I think my processor is the killer here.. I think I'll get ATA cables and see if it improves the transfer or something..!!
And yes... PowerDVD is the most complete one yet!
Any other suggestions..!??
