Wow! Is that, like, the full version, not the upgrade? Activation code required?
Braiii

Yes full version I have it loaded on my pc now...it gives you the activation code (CD-key) too. It's awesome, blows my mind...Best Buy $345! www.z-buy.com $127!!!!! :p
Basically the difference is you just don't get the display box...lol, who needs a retail display box anyway...I want the contents of the box and that is exactly what you get!

Having the CD Key, does that eliminate having to register your equipment with Microsoft.

You wish...with all XP OS's you have to activate your system within 30 days or your OS will not work. No you do not have to tell Microsoft what you have in your system.

Wrong wrong wrong!
You are correct with Windows Xp home and Windows XP pro. Both need activation.
However, Good old Windows Xp Pro Corp edtion needs no activation, or telling M$ about waht hardware you put in your computer.

Okay mister wrong...so I missed the corp. edtion...big deal. I started this thread to advertise a good price for the OS, because I liked what I got for my money. Not to discuss the actual versions of the OS.

Wow you never have bought a M$ product,
But do you "have" or own any?
If you play games you need to.
No matter what people say about M$ I am **** happy they are around.
Think about a world with no windows. We would all be sitting in front of Linux.
Which personally and many other fell this way I would not want to do.
I would even go as far to say I "like" microsoft and all they have done for the computing world.

so i should buy their games to give them more money???!!! don't you think they have enough money for the next 10,000 years?

How can you say xp sucks if you've never bought or actually used it the way you were supposed to...and I don't mean playing with the store display.

i know because i have seen it and played with it on friends computers. it looks pretty and is nice to use, but all the bundled "free" software is the really horrible part. all the free software that is included is going to kill other software makers just like they did with netscape and real player. and no that is not "the free market". it is a money hungry corporation putting their hand in every pot.
another thing that i don't like it that windows media player (with XP) keeps a log of every file that you play whether it is an MP3 or AVI? how do you know that they didn't program XP to send them that file every 6 months? that info is worth gold to music companies. in addition, the music that companies sell on the internet, they can limit the number of times you listen to a song?
:p

Big deal...I have nothing to hide, plus Netscape...SUCKS! I'm a web developer for IBM and we cater to IE; 95% of the people on the Internet use MS IE..and if you didn't know already AOL installs Reaplayer which also sucks! If you already have realplayer on your system you can just take it off...how hard is that?
If you're going to go around worrying about every little thing, how can you ever be productive at all?

ah well then there is no changing your mind about microsoft, but for all those others out there that would like to think for yourselves, and not be ruled by microsoft try this link - and read it, it will be more interesting then you thought

P.S. i do not support this site, i just found it and it has some good thoughts.

It's "themselves" and to actually think some people are being "ruled" by Microsoft is unfounded and to display your imbecility this much is quite pathetic.
Don't try to shove out your opinion's, apply them with a little diligence.

This thread has some interesting diversions. All-in-all, $127 is a much better price for a full version of WinXP pro than the $299 that the retail stores demand. Someone is either loosing their shirt on this deal, or the retail chains are gouging the consumer.
Braiii

Yes, I must concur with you on the diversions. Basically what I found it to be was hardware packages software, all PC companies do this, buy a system get discounted software. To put i.e. buy a Dell system and you'll be paying for support, parts and labor, not the software unless you buy the extra software packages separately, so you don't really pay for the OS software or any other kind of standard software for that matter.
The software that comes packaged is OEM software or Original Equipment Manufacturer software, nothing fancy just how it comes from the manufacturer before it goes to "packaging." Therefore it has to be discounted in order for the resellers to agree and buy directly from the manufacturer.
Plus, you can find tons of examples at pricewatch.com (I personally bought every single part of my current machine in reference from this website online, trust me don't ever buy retail again, Best Buy = overpaying!)

Therefore it has to be discounted in order for the resellers to agree and buy directly from the manufacturer. In this case, DSP = OEM. OEM = no MS support in addition to skimpy packaging. For most of us here, that's no big deal because we get decent, free support - here! I use the OEM XP Pro CD. I paid $175 from Directron on Oct 28 of last year.
No - I can't phone MS for help. Thanks to Google, I don't have to. :p

Bill is right, this package is not for the general public (remember the general public is filled with ignorant minds!), for everyone who can "hold there own" you need to buy this without worry of microsoft support.
Like Bill says you get it all right here and throughout the web plus 3/4 of what you get from MS support is already published on their website.
Thanks for adding to that, brought up an interesting point.
