Hi..
I am installing an abit be6-II v.2.0 and have partitioned and formatted the hdd. When I try to auto-detect it in bios it find's nothing...both primary and secundary master/sleve is set to auto.
I have dvd/cdr on ide1 and hdd on ide3, have also tried with ide2/ide4...
Gave up after a while and set it to boot on the dvd and started installing win2000, but it stopped after a while saying that it could not find any hdd....
When I start the pc I end up at C: and kan type dir and so on, so it's there and it's obviously working so why the h*** won't the bios detect it???
The socets are propery plugged in so it ain't that.
Btw it dosen't detect anything on either primary or secundary master/slave....but the dvd and cdr are listed as I let the pc go til I C: ....

Can somebody please help me!!

Thanks to all replies.

From my understanding you should set it up like this:
Primary IDE bus = HD (master)
Secondary IDE bus = CDRW/DVD (master)

Hence the HD should be plugged into the cable by itself and with the jumper set to master.

well, but my hdd-cable dosen't fit in ide1 because all the pins is present on ide1/ide2, in ide3/ide4 the pin in the middle is missing so my cable fits there....just like ide1 on my previous mobo.
Do I need another cable??
getting pretty confused here...

I would try a new cable. I have two UDMA 80 conductor IDE flat ribbon cables... one has all the pin holes, the other has the middle one blocked like yours. Go Figure eh? If you can find them, the new rounded IDE cables all come with the full pin complement like you need for your HD to MB IDE 1 connection.

There is also a quick fix I did one time for my nephew's computer. He had the pin setup like you have on your cable... so what I did was to take a 1/16" drill bit and drill out that blank spot of plastic on the connector that hooks to the IDE slot and it worked like a charm.
