okay, im hoping that im not the only one on this earth with this problem. recently decided that i was going to build my first computer. this is what i bought:
P4 1.7ghz
Soyo P4l Firedragon mobo
128 ddr ram pc2100 (non-ecc)
volcano cpu fan
g-force2 mx-200 video card
80gb barracuda hd
a floppy drive
a cd drive
300 watt tigerpro power supply
a p4 compatible case with a couple of fans
on first boot, i heard a horrendous series of beeps, they were long with a short pause in between, with no video. i put the jp5 jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3, and no more beeps, but still no video. looking on the soyo website it assured me that it was a memory problem. that really didnt help me any so i called them up (within the brief half hour that the tech support is actually open) and the guy (upon hearing the beeps) once again assured me that it was the memory. so i go on crucial.com and buy the RAM thats best suited for my mobo, and about half an hour ago i installed it. guess what? still the same **** beeps. so to summarize my problems:
no video
hideous beeps when jp5 connector is on pins 1-2 (only beeps every OTHER time power is turned on, go figure....)
i've tried using an old school pci video card but its the same prob... please im sure im not the only one thats had this problem(unless im doing something monumentally stupid). either way i'd like some input cause i am stumped and so are my hardware savvy friends. thx

I have the Athlon version of this board, same thing. The board has a thing where it won't turn on if the CPU fan isn't spinning. Make sure your CPU fan is spinning and is connected to the CPUFAN1 3 pin fan header on the motherboard.
If your CPU fan doesn't have the three pin header, or the motherboard is retarded and doesn't think its spinning even though it is, do this. Hold the INSert key down and turn the computer on. Keep holding INS until you can press DEL to go into BIOS. In the PC HEALTH tab it should show the fan speed and also have an option to turn this thing off.
In my case, the fan is on the 3 pin header. It does spin. BIOS shows it spinning at 3000 RPMs. It still won't let me boot. I think the fan (TT Volcano 7) may spin up slowly or something, don't know for sure. Good luck....
As a side note, I don't know about yours, but my manual has about 20 pages on how to use the included f*****g CD player application and exactly 0 pages talking about POST codes....Aside from that, love the motherboard...

well im glad to see that im not the only one that has had a problem w/soyo... unfortunately, i have tried those suggestions and still no video... i dont even hear that one short beep that means everythings ok. im actually starting to fear its my cpu, maybe i fried it somewhere in the process of building it. i got the 3 pin cpu fan and its in cpufan1 and running smoothly at 4800rpm, all i have plugged in right now is the video card, floppy drive, cpu fan and memory, but alas, no video...

this is just a follow up(mainly to keep my problem from being pushed into the corner). i heard it might be the fan, but i got a 4800 rpm volcano so i dont think its that... any ideas?

You've tried different ram, but have you tried them in different slots? usually ram slots are numbered 0, 1, 2. with 0 being closest to the CPU. Try putting hte ram in different slots..

ive tried diff slots.... actually i put my cpu in another board and it worked fine, so im thinking i just fried my board somewhere along the line of building it. *sigh* lets just hope i can find the receipt...

i also have a soyo dragon plus athlon version of your board and i (knock on wood) didn't experience your set of problems. Even so, your problem sounds curiously similar to what might happen if your board in shorting with the case somehow. Can you gently take it out of the case and trying it with the bare essentials connected. Just a last test before you send it back.....Hope you don't give up on the soyo, its been a good choice for me so far....good luck
