I read this rumor somewhere that they were going to start charging next month for "free" internet access if you exceed more than 40 hours a month. Is this true?

Is this true? HmC_RaNgEr 12-22-2000, 11:56 AM Yes, its very true. www.dslreports.com (http://www.dslreports.com) has a good review about this. Cheers, Ranger. Ed_S 12-22-2000, 06:04 PM WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., December 21, 2000 - NetZero, Inc. (Nasdaq: NZRO), a leading provider of Internet access services and targeted marketing solutions, announced today the launch of "NetZero Professional," a new service plan aimed at small business, professional and other members whose household usage exceeds 40 hours in a single calendar month. Beginning in January 2001, households and businesses that exceed the 40-hour threshold will have the option to pay $9.95 to allow them unlimited usage for the remainder of the calendar month. NetZero believes the NetZero Professional service plan will impact only a small percentage of its user base. Of the NetZero members who used NetZero's free Internet access service throughout the month of November 2000, approximately 12% spent more than 40 hours online. This small percentage of users accounted for over 50% of NetZero's telecommunications costs during November. NetZero's goal is that all of its users, whether they have paid for additional access time or not, continue to receive quality services and high call-completion rates. The plan applies only in the specific month in which a household exceeds the 40 hours of free access. Accordingly, a household who paid $9.95 in one month would not pay any fees in subsequent months if their usage stays below the 40 hours that NetZero offers free to all of its users. Also, if a household elects not to pay a fee when they reach the 40 hour limit during a month, their account will not be terminated and they can begin accessing the service for free at the beginning of the next month. http://www.netzero.com/about_us/20001221nz_pro.html ====== I for one don't have a problem with that, although I most likely exceed 40 hrs every month! Ed jacobnero8196 12-22-2000, 07:52 PM Who wants to pay for a Dial-up service ? If I'm going to pay I'm going with DSL, cable or satellite. I pay $40 a month for my stupid extra phone line then add another $20 for dialup for $60 that sucks. I would gladly pay for Broadband but not for slow dial up! jacobnero8196 12-22-2000, 07:56 PM Oh I forgot to add that AT$T has a dialup plan for $4.95 a month which gives you 150 hours a month. Linda91 12-22-2000, 08:53 PM I would not "pay" a dime to netzero even for DSL service! They have no tech support & the ads really gets old fast.
