SiS530 incompatible with DirectX8.1

I recently updated my SiS530 display driver then tried to play EverQuest and got quicked out. I reviewed my DirectX (dxdiag) and discovered that my 3D was disabled (not available.) After surfing the net I discovered that the new driver causes that problem. Many people reported the problem and SiS is not taking any responsiblity or solutions. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I am a major EQ fiend and am having withdrawls. Thanks!!!!!!:confused:

Did it work with DX8.0/7.0 or you have to use DX8.1 ?

get a Directx unistaller (trust me they are out there) and reinstall one of the earlier ones. Dont contact SIS cos they are a bunch of %$#@#%^ when it comes to tech support. I mailed them about 5 times with a problem with my sis6326 card and didnt get one reply, then i posted here and get about 20

In order to play EQ, I must have DirectX 8.1. I was told about the DirectX uninstaller, but I could not locate it anywhere. Every site I went to said that DirectX 8.1 could not be uninstalled. I had the older version of the driver with DX8.1 and it was working fine, except EQ was a little blurry. EQ suggested updating driver, which I did :( and now DX8.1 is no good.

well i can only suggest to contact SIS and tell them. also go to there website and there is a kind of message center that may hold your answer

Already went to SiS site AND contacted them. They are not changing their updated driver. Their only response is basically Oh well. I tried loading an older driver from a different website, but for some reason, it wouldn't load.

Try another driver then. If that one doesnt load, it's probably just that it doesn't like having an older version replace a new one.

Then try going into Device Manager and removing the offending device. Don't restart your computer after that - it will probably detect the device when it restarts and just put the newest driver back in place. Instead go to Add New Hardware and use the Hardware wizard to put the old driver back in.

Well, I definitely installed an older version of SiS530, yet I still cannot enable my 3D functions. I tried installing an older version of DirectX (7.0) but it still says 8.1 is there. I have tried to located a directX uninstaller, but cannot locate one. I heard they exist. Does anyone know where I can find the uninstaller OR how to enable my 3D functions again? I would prefer the 3D functions. I am so having EQ withdrawls.:D Thanks!!!

Well nothing worked. The uninstaller wouldn't uninstall DirectX8.1. So I gave up. Thanks for you help everyone. I decided to purchase a new chip. I have found out that even if I could fix it SiS530 is really horrible to use with EverQuest. So, as I am an EverQuest junkie :D I had to purchase a new chip. Thanks again for all your help!:cool:

sis cards are horrible.i had sis 6326 . really bad performances.

andyboy, now come on. ANY graphics chip from 1997 will give you bad performance with today's games. SiS 6326 is no exception. (Yes it is that old!) No reason for a generic company dissing.

Actually, the 6326 was a huge success at its time, completely unnoticed by the enthusiast community but used in huge masses by the more average people. In its best year the thing shipped 25 million units or so.
