Does anyone know if AMD's new 0.13 micron CPUs will be pin grid array compatible with existing (newer) socket A mobos?
TIA,

I think we all are still awaiting that answer! My durons gonna go if so! But as far as I know the Hammer is gonna go on a dif. socket! The question is how about the XP. Is it going to continue. Are they going to .13 fab. Are they gonna keep going faster on the XP? Are they gonna try to keep it the mainstreem chip? Time will only tell.

the new .13 micron xp's (thoroughbred) will still use the socket 462 (socket A) because they are only changing the size of the cpu core. everything else will be the same.

940 pins :)

Hmms, that's many pins, why not just round them up to 1000 :) just to get nice numbers :)

Actually, those 940 pins there are for built-in three HyperTransport buses and dual-channel DDR SDRAM memory controller

so then wut about the socket 754 for the clawhammer? will it only have like one HyperTransport bus or whatever?

Small update :)

Both ClawHammer (Socket 754) and SledgeHammer (Socket 940) probably have two HyperTransport buses integrated, but SledgeHammer has dual-channel 64bit DDR SDRAM controller while ClawHammer has single-channel 64bit DDR SDRAM controller.
