Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Onboard sound+good speakers=bad audio???
I have an ESS PCI Solo-1 on my IBM Aptiva mobo. I have Infinity multimedia speakers. I want a good speaker system... maybe 4 sats and a subwoofer. I only have one audio jack coming from the back of my PC. I notice some sound coming from the speakers... it sounds like the mothership in Independece Day. Its like a beeping. I was looking for the best speaker system for my onboard sound... I don't want to get a sound system that is TOO good for my sound. I play Half-Life: Counter-Strike so I need good speakers.
Thanks,
JC

lol me too, mine is hooked up to my stereo which, while ageing, still produces plenty good sound.

How much are you willing to spend?
Warthog
Well my sound card isn't that good so the cost of the speakers shouldn't cost THAT much right??? Anyway, maybe in the 60 dollars range..... maybe more maybe less... lets see what you can do. OH!!! I have this Aiwa home stereo system, it has the 2 big speaker boxes but the connections are the 2 wires that are pinched in not the jack kind..... can these work as PC speakers and can I buy a jack to "pinch in wire" converters at Radio Shack???

what you'd want to do is run the line out from your pc to one of the sets of jacks on the amplifier, most likely "aux", though mine is on tape 2.

You mean, you have a mini-system?
Someone else on this board has a mini-system hooked up to their computer. I'm sure it has a line in on it so you can do what Savant said. Run an 1/8" RCA cable ($3 at the Shack) from you PC's line out to your mini-system's (or recievers) line in. It is as simple as that. I have my (self titled http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif) World Class stereo system plugged into my comp through a reciever.

This is what I have:
Altec Lansing 5-piece Surround System (http://pecos.egghead.com/isapi/isapi.dll?Command=ServePage.exe&sku=150258&t=8&f=1)
It sounds absolutely awesome for an even more awesome price.
Alright, my AIWA system is a CZ-NA115 Digital Audio System. I checked Radio Shack and they have a Y splitter. I am going to get the Y splitter and connect the AUX wire on the AIWA and then the other split on the old Infinity speakers. I'll tell you how it sounds.

If you still want to, you can get a PC stereo system.
The Creative Labs FPS2000 is supposed to be good, but I don't know the price. Hold on, while I find some links.

Altec Lansing is pretty good. My dad has a similar system but with 2 speakers and smaller sub. They sound excellent and produce a decent amount of bass for such a small sub. Keep in mind, that his is a smaller system that this one http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif.
**just noticed that this one is the same as Undertows lol http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Wait! Just found a better one! Bigger bass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 40w subwoofer vs. 20w in above link. The frequency response is MUCH lower. 20hz (?!) vs. 38hz. The 20hz seems kinda low. My $600 15" Klipsch sub gets 24hz (insane!!!). Plus it has a remote.

Personally, I'd spend the extra money and get this system. Of course, I'm biased.

Hook it up to your stereo JC, and you'll never go back to computer speakers. Now that i'm home i have my computer, sb live, hooked up to my 50 watt kenwood reciever thats attached to my bose 4001 floor standing speakers. And My Mp3's NEVER sounded soo GOOD!!!!!! Sadly i can't take my home system back with me to school, don't want to risk it, so i'm getting some older, but just as sweet equipment from a friend, luxmen 100 watt integrated amp, with epi speakers that have 3 tweeters and 5 woofers per speakers. Old, but sound just as sweet, and no one would recognize them, so i don't have to worry about them being ripped off. No only if i can afford a nice Sub. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
