I Failed to unlock duron multiplier, I carried out the pencil trick as described on many pages, but it still doesn't change the ratio. I chenged my motherbaord to turn off autodetect ratio settings and put it to a 7.5 multiplier, but in the boot up screen it still says 8x105 :(

Should I leave the jumpers to back to autodetect and do it all from BIOS. Are there any other ways of telling if the operation was successful. I did try doing it again to make sure and it still dind't work.

when you use the penicl trick, you have to make sure of a few things first. namely, that the contact area on the ceramic is clean for the pencil lead to stick to. use some rubbing alcohol and clean the area. secondly, you have to make sure the pencil is good enough. a regular #2 is fine. also make sure that the pencil lead is thick enough. about 20-30 strokes is good. when unlocked, you should be able to manually change the multiplier thru the bios or thru jumpers.

It was probably the crappy pencil I was using, I am going to restock it with better graphite and try again, (I just failed a 2nd time  but I'll keep trying until I bust my CPU trying. (what is worst case scenario if I accidently joined all the L1 bridges together etc?

worst case scenario if you connect all of your L1 bridges? you will fry your chip. period. the connections will ground out and fry the chip. not good. be very, very careful, i'm unlocking my cpu. hahaha (my impression of elmer fudd)
