Hi all
I have ordered some arctic silver 111 and would like to know the safest way to apply it on to the procesor, ie do you spread it on with your finger or should i use a applicator of some kind. At the moment the processor has been in the computer for about 2 months i plan to remove it and scape of the black stuff on the heat sink after that what can be used to clean it before applying the arctic silver.

Instructions. (http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm) ;)

The best way to remove a thermal pad is with Goof Off followed by isopropyl alcohol. An old credit card makes a good scraper. If the pad has been melted, you may want to lap your heatsink to remove the residue from the microscopic pores. For more on why, read Thermal Interface Basics.
