I currently have 2A59Ht5BC-00 bios and would like to upgrade if it would give me bidirectional coms on the parallel port.which is the best version to use? Appreciate any help thro the minefield.

A visit to the board maker's website, looking at Support >Downloads (or the like) for your specific board, should reveal what improvements are available. The latest version will contain all previous changes.
