Hello, before I explain my problem here is my setup which I have yet to use thanks to Seagate:

Epox EP-8KHA+
Athlon XP 2000+ (w/ Alpha PAL8045)
Mushkin 256MB PC-2100 HP DDR SDRAM
Seagate Barracuda IV 40GB HD (ATA100)
Artec 56x CDROM
Artec 24x 10x 40x CDRW
Sound Blaster Audigy X-Gamer
Netgear FA11 NIC
VisionTek Xtasy GeForce4 Ti 4600

Now to my problem which has me frustrated to the point where I threw a perfectly good power supply into the wall... I built a brand new system and when I attempt to install WinXP (or Win2k) it hangs at the screen where it says "Setup Is Starting Windows XP." (which is right after it loads all the drivers; about two minutes into the text-mode setup)

This problem is even documented on Microsoft's site (http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q310760).

The solution, which is to specify a third party disk controller driver during setup, (which I've done in the past on Win2k with a Maxtor hard drive) would be just dandy if Seagate had ANY drivers in existence for this purpose.

Has anyone run into a problem like this before? Is it even HDD-related problem? (I don't trust Microsoft's support pages) Someone please help me out and point me in the right direction. I have a GeForce 4 and I can't even use it. My pain... it runs deep! Let me share it with you!

Thanks in advance.

The drivers that MS is referring to are HDD controller drivers. Are the drives connected to standard onboard ports or additional UDMA/RAID/SCSI controllers?

I have the exact same hard disc and the driver it is refering to is the raid or scsi controller built into the motherboard/riser card.

This happens with any hard disc plugged into a controler of that type. You have to get the raid/scsi drivers for your particular mobo/device. If you plug the hard disc into a standard ide interface this driver is not required.

Are you sure it's hanging there?

I have seen instances where it took a couple of minutes or better for this screen to clear before continuing the rest of the setup.
