I don't know your budget, but have you thought about a water cooled case? No fan noise.

Panaflo brand is supposed to be more quiet than others... they make a full range of sizes and capacities. They are sleeve bearing, not ball bearing, and that's one of the chief reasons they are more quiet. Most of the time, ball bearing fans are considered better and more long lasting, BUT Panaflow makes the "top shelf" sleeve bearing fans out there. Most folks would not hesitate to use Panaflo.

Also, I recently read about another manufacturer (I think it was Y.S. Tech) who is coming out in the next few weeks with a "centerless" fan (the electric motor is placed on the perimeter of the fan shroud instead of the central hub) which is supposed to put out more airflow at lower speeds since the center portion of the fan is usable for pushing air. If I can find the article I'll post back, but you may want to check that out yourself... seems a step in the right direction.

This vendor also carries some newer design Vantec Stealths (see here (http://2cooltek.safeshopper.com/61/cat61.htm?169)) which are claimed to be more quiet at a given cfm.

I'll post back if I can find the centerless fan info.

UPDATE: Here's the link (http://www.ystech.com.tw/Tmd/tmd-0.htm) to the new YS Tech TMD (Tip Magnetic drive) fan. Don't know of any vendors yet, but I'm sure if you supply this info to your local (or favorite mail order) pc shop, he'd be glad to get it for you.

hmm.. I've been thinking. Maybe you should just buy your mom a laptop and put your PC in the basement. I mean all mom's do is *****. If you buy that 120mm fan she will ***** about "Why do you have that big fan there? huh!!" "Do you need it?" "When I bought you this it didn't have this fan!" "Why do you need to waste MY money on stuff you don't need?!!" "You know how hard I have to work for your life!!" "HUH!?" "I want to seee you cleaning toilets!!" "I cant belive how self centered you are!" "Welcome to the real world!" "If it wasnt for me you'd be out side **** naked asking money from people!!"

you get my point

There are lots of things you can do to reduce noise, but if you change fans to 'quiet fans' you'll probably end up losing CFM. The best way to lose noise and keep the same air circulation is probably to go with bigger blades... can you replace your 92 with a 120? If so, you could tinker to run both fans at slightly lower rpm's and still have the same amount of air moved.

You could also just move your computer so that it bothers your mom less - either move it to a different room where no one hears it, or experiment with positioning it so the sound is muffled. Most of the fan sound escapes right out through the ventilation holes in the front and rear of the case, so you want to put the back side close to a wall, and put something between the front side and the majority of the room's space (but not too close.. gotta keep a balance between sound suppression and the box's ability to breathe).

Let us know what you do and how it works. This is an issue I will face soon as my cpu fan sounds like a small hair dryer, and I haven't even put in my case fans yet... and I'll be moving home for the summer in a few months

Have you thought of moving the radiator outside the case? So that it's exposed to the room air instead of the air in the case? I haven't worked with water cooling yet, but I looked into it a bit, and I recall seeing somewhere that having your radiator on the outside can help as the room air will usually be significantly cooler and thus help a little to transfer the heat away.

one of my friends runs a server in his room. He just put his computer inside his closet and with 20 bucks of cables he just put a hole in the wall and he has a stealth computer :p

I leave the computer in my room, its on my desk, ive got 156 watt peltier, so i have 2 power supplies, so 3 80mm fans, 2 92mm fans on the case, and 1 120mm fan on the radiator, its on my desk outside the case. i got used to the noise, but my mom thinks its really loud *gofigure* . anyways, i turned off the 2 92mms for now, ill hook them up to a pot later and turn down the voltage later. all im really looking for is 2 120mm fans for my radiator. I wont really need that much airflow cause ill have 2 of them, instead of one. Well if anyone has any other tips on how to reduce noise, plz msg me.

well.. lol thats some crazy system of fans you got. Maybe try buying those quite fans. Even know none of them work.. I spent 20 bucks on a 60mm fan for my HSF and its not quite.. infact its louder then my generic 2x80mm fans I got on the side of my case!!

Ahh..

Maybe build a box around your PC.. Like a dog house.. But for your PC.. lol that would be funny

I have my PC on top of my desk too, I like to be able to reach the ports in back without getting down on hands and knees, and bumping my head. But if you don't do so much adjusting in the back, you could make do with less leg room and put it under your desk, that way the sound has to get out of that confined space with the desk on 3 sides, the wall at the back, and your chair/you in front (and lose some energy/volume) before it reaches the main part of the room.

All,
I made a mistake regarding the manufacturer of the sleeve bearing (quiet) fans. It's Papst NOT Panaflo.

Here's a link (http://www.papst.de/english/home.html) to the manufacturer.

Sorry if I mislead anyone. :(
