my 40gb hard drive says it only has 33.6gb

I bought a matrox 40gb hard drive i open up the computer and put it in then used the hard drive dection in bios and it said i only have 33.6 gb on the hard drive can any one tell me what it up with that?

It will recognize the whole drive.

What drive is the OS on?
Did you get a retail or oem drive.
