I just subscribed to a few newsgroups through OE 6 and when I'm downloading all messages from my selected newsgroups, I'm not noticing the usual Norton e-mail scan. I don't mean to sound ignorant, but if you're subscribed to newsgroups and correspond via an e-mail addy, shouldn't my AV recognize this as e-mail? If not, then I'm assuming that I have no protection at all when it comes to newsgroups.

Since newsgroups are mostly text and HTML, they are treated like web surfing. Attachments are treated as downloads and are scanned when being downloaded. Don't sweat it - you will hear alarm bells if you download a virus.
