virus scan... something just doesn't seem right on my comp...

I don't know what the deal is, but something just doesn't seem right on my computer lately. I have mcAfee, but since I download almost nothing, and even then, only from trustworth sources. I there anything else that someone could suggest?? some sort of new virus??... I'm pretty certain that it's not some sort of hardware problem, but perhaps I need to open her up and get a good cleaning...

I'd say the chances are low -- depending on your computing habits. Use shared floppies and/or programs? Run attached Email progs? Visit shady websites? Firewall? Have Microsux networking installed?
Sounds like you take the right precautions. Anyrthing questionable in the run & load lines in Win.ini? Start-up folder? Run key in the registry? Run
fdisk /mbr
IF you don't have Drive Overlay software, don't dual-boot, or don't run an NT-style OS.
Install any "updates" or new progs recently? Soft or hardware problems can be far more varied, hard to pinpoint, and just as damaging as any virus.

I know exactly what you're saying... that's what is so frustrating... I rarely even install programs unless I know I will actually use them... I've been trying to install the alice demo, but that isn't working, and my eudora keeps opening up with the interface all switched around and screwed up.... I was just remembering there was some talk a while ago about some legitimate programs that entered a registry key that checked back with the vendor and sent them info, but I don't really think that's it either... hmmm
Maybe i'll just take it all apart, clean, and put it back together again...
