In Device Mgr under CD there is a check box for CD Disconnect, and it dosen't seem to do anything.

Sometimes, the auto run dosen't seem to work right, and "CD required" applications sometimes don't work right.

Also, I frequently get a Data CD read as a music CD causing me to reinsert the CD and fool around with it.

Could these be related to "disconnect" being checked? "DMA" will not work with this Sony 32X....(Throws bad files and data).

Thanks in Advance....

Offhand, it means the device has the ability to "Disconnect" from the PCI bus. I'm fairly sure this has NO effect for IDE-ATA devices -- only SCSI.

DMA not working for a CDRom isn't unusual. In fact, in my limited experience, I've always had some problems w/CDRoms -- many just like you describe. Personally, I'd turn off the Auto-run feature -- it adds complexity to an already flakey device. Turning it off tho, has consequences -- Windows has trouble refreshing the Explorer "View" of the CDRom then. You might try any updated IDE drivers from your mobo's chipset manufacturers website -- this finally solved my CDRom quirks (& let it use DMA).
