Problem: I can connect to the ISP (dialup) but IE doesn't seem to know it's connected. I've tried running Windows setup, didn't help. In network\properties I've got client for ms networks, dialup adapter (bound to tcp/ip), tcp/ip (bound to client for ms networks). All the browser security settings are default. I did a clean install of Windows (renamed original to winold, clean install to Windows) and it works fine. But I need to get the original install working. I'm not sure where to go from here, any suggestions?

Use the Internet Connection Wizard (INETWIZ.EXE).

Been there, done that. Any other ideas?

In case anyone cares, the problem turned out to be McAfee firewall. I had reconfigured it to allow MSN and IE to access the internet, but when I checked, it was set to block all access. Maybe I was missing something, but I haven't figured out why it won't save my configuration changes, so I uninstalled it! (Take THAT McAfee!!!)

Sure we care!

I find that McAfee's almost automatic installation of a really rudimentary firewall disturbing. It almost got by me on one PC. Buyers should get pop-ups and tutorials galore before any program installs a firewall.
