**** thing. I have WIN2K. I tried installing a sound card (CMEDIA 8738) and it came up with the strangest thing. Obviously Windows didn't detect it, so I ran the setup did all the wam bam. But the strange thing is that when it installs the drivers a window starts telling me what is going on. It goes like this. Oh yah before this, windows shuts down when I try and install this driver off of the add hardware using windows driver version (which is there). When it reboots windows has some errors. When I run the setup off of the CD a little window pops up and says.

Installing software
Copying necessary files
Waiting for audio driver to respond
.................................................. .................................................. .

Now I let it wait for 30 minutes last time. This is the strangest thing I have seen. I downloaded new drivers from Pines website. It didn't help. Maybe someone has some ideas.

Have you tried letting windows update take care of it? I couldn't seem to get the driver to work with XP, but when I went to Windows Update, they had drivers that worked. None of those I'd downloaded from CMedia, windrivers.com, or what I had on disk would work. Kept crashing my machine. Finally, fed up & thinking I'd have to buy a different card, I left it alone. When I did my updates, lo & behold, there was a driver update for it. It took a long time to install itself after the download, but it works now.
