Happy WIN2K user trying out XP.:eek:

I realise that group policy editor does not come with WinXP home edition, but can it be added? or do microsloth offer it as an add-on or plug-in for the management console.

I know that home edition does not support networking on a domain as XP pro does and this is probably why GPEdit is left out, but is there enough there to run gpedit.msc if I obtain it. (would gpedit from my beloved WIN2K work?)

Never happy!

Tried a straight copy from W2K of the exe and some associated dll's but no go. I'll need to look into it a bit more but I don't think it'll work straight off. Perhaps it needs to be installed as a snap in to register properly. I'll have a snoop on microsloth's website to see if there's a download for XP or 2K.

Maybe I should just get XP pro:rolleyes:

If I like what I see of XP home I'll consider it.

FYI if anyone's interested

I acquired the gpedit exe and support files for XP Pro from a buddy (thanx Mr.) and tried them out in XP Home.

Alas to no avail, I got the following helpful message...

Snap-in failed to initialize.
Name:Group Policy
CLSID:{8FC0B734-A0E1-11D1-A7D3-0000F87571E3}

worth a try though.

I'll have a look see if there is anything official out there on microsloth's site.

Or I may have to consider XP Pro;)
