Did you remove old driver an re-install? sean2394 03-22-2002, 11:30 PM I did this but it didn't recognize the driver. Any other suggestions? Beeblequix 03-23-2002, 06:51 PM Is your card an ISA card? <http://club.aopen.com.tw/forum/viewmessage.asp?forumID=9&MessageID=7224> This thread is small and pretty much says that the olde isa soundcard is no longer supported, but the respondant advises to use a w2k driver which may work. If that all fails you'd best get a new card. Soundblaster Live! Value is only about 25 bucks and works great. B.Quix araaraara 03-23-2002, 08:14 PM From my experience, it appears that Windows XP doesn't support any non-pnp ISA card. I had an Intel EtherExpress 16 ISA from 1993 (before they had pnp), which worked fine under Windows 98 and DOS, but XP didn't even know it was there, and I couldn't get it to find the network card. The same thing with an older 3COM network card from 1992. They all worked under Win98, but WinXP didn't even know they existed. So, make sure that your soundcard is PNP compatible (no jumpers for one thing). If not, you can now find decent cheap soundcards that will work fine. sean2394 03-24-2002, 03:43 PM Thanks to the both of you. It is an ISA card but I will try a win2k driver and hopefully it will work. What is a good place to find a basic but reliable card? thanks in advance Beeblequix 03-25-2002, 09:35 AM Where do you live? If you're in Utah then I know some places. I get most of my stuff from my semi-favorite local system integrator. You might try a place that's local for the sake of convenience. If there is a Fry's in you area I hear they kick @ZZ. Bestbuy is also commonly known to be good. Circuit City, although they advertise stuff like RTCW for $30 but only have two copies in with no rainchecks just to get you in the store, carry Soundblaster products(interesting that when they had Max Payne misprinted for $15 that they honored that plus rainchecks to everyone, but not on their regular ads)(yes, they're on my krapper list). Online retailers have an advantage that they have lower prices and no sales tax usually(unless they have an establishment in your state). On the other hand a person can get very -->shafted<-- from some. May I mention one that I wouldn't trust were it the sole remaining capitalist proprietarship on the planet? A2Z Computers in Ohio. Here is a link to resellerratings on them: <http://www.resellerratings.com/seller_info.pl?seller_id=1723> Don't believe anyone who gives them a positive rating. They're either trolls or people who haven't figured out that they've been scammed yet. Please please please stay away from them. Anandtech has a rating section for online retailers too. Just be sure you don't go for the lowest price exclusively. Do a little research first and choose a company with an impeccable reputation. And NOT one that's going under or any funny business.
