Hi,
I've recently upgraded my system to an Athlon XP 1700+ with the ECS K7S5A mainboard, and after I boot up the computer, Windows XP gives me a BSOD. It says something about recovering from a serious error and then a STOP code (it never actually loads Windows). Is this normal, that after I have revamped my entire configuration, the copy of Windows will no longer function? Will I have to reformat and start anew? Thanks.

I think you do because if you have a new MoBo than alot of the IRQ's and such will have changed. I have never been able to change my Mobo and keep the same OS install, To may errors will always come up. It is best just to reformat and do a new install.

go to local machine in the registry. find enum, delete...that will take all of the device listing out and when you reboot, windows will redect your hardware and ask for the correct drivers..give it what it wants and you're on your way....i had the same issue about a month ago and this works great....that's registry.....local machine.....ENUM...right click and delete...then restart...good luck

Thanks for the replies. The problem was that I could not enter Windows XP Pro under any circumstances, even safe mode with command prompt. It would freeze at the BSOD before the loading screen is displayed. My only choice now is to use Windows 2k and then reinstall XP Pro.

If you still ahve your old mobo and cpu plug it in and do like elleon suggests. then reinstall the new mobo.
I do this whenever I upgrade my mobo and want to keep old stuff...
However, with XP, I would recommend doing a clean install anyway.

Any time you change the motherboard it is best to reinstall the operating system. If you are not concerned about loosing anything, then just reformat and reinstall.
