Hi all - I have XP Pro. I would like to know what these folders are & what created them. They show up in the "show hidden folders" mode. The resone I ask is because I think they are created from a reset during an XP lock-up. If so, can the be deleted?
Some drives have 1, "FOUND.000", other drives have 2, "FOUND.000" & "FOUND.001". Thanks for your time. Pack'nHeat http://images.fotki.com/v1/photos/1/14285/24684/cwm71-1-vi.gif

Is there anything in the folders? Generally, anything with a .000 type of extention is fair game for deletion. Frankly, if it were me, I'd just wax the things and be done with it.

Those folders are a result of Chkdsk. When lost clusters or crosslinked files are found, chkdsk creates the folders and places the clusters in the folders as files in hopes that you may be able to retrieve any info you need from them. You must be using FAT32 because I've yet to see that happen under NTFS. Delete the folders and use Partition magic to convert your drive/s to NTFS. Ignore the last part if you're using dualboot with 95/98/SE/ME. They can't read NTFS.
