Hi All,

I am in the process of assembling my PC. I have run into a problem right at the first step. My motherboard is Intel 845BGL (with built-in LAN), Intel P4 1.6A processor, 512 MB DDR RAM 184 pin DIMM, Radeon 7000 64MB SDR AGP video card. Now when I switch on the system with just this configuration (no floppy, no hard drive and no CD ROM drives connected), the display that I get on the screen is the copyright information from Intel about the Motherboard, the processor description at the top of the screen and at the bottom it says 'Entering SETUP...' on one line and 'Press F12 to boot from network' on another line. This screen just stays there for about a minute or so and then the system powers off. The fans (rear chasis fan and processor fan) work, no beep codes, it just sits there. What can I do next? The keyboard doesn't seem to work (i.e. pressing F2 or F12 doesn't make any difference). The problem is not with the keyboard as I tested this on another PC and it works fine.

Anybody please help !!!

Thanks,

Aravind Ram

What happens if you add the FDD and the HD? Now, you'd have something to configure in BIOS. If still no go, then maybe you've got a bad mobo? Also, double check all connections on installed components.

Many thanks for your prompt answer. Initially I had the HD , FDD and CD/DVD ROMs connected. When that didn't work I started removing one at a time (first the floppy, then the CD and finally the HD) and of course all the connecting IDE cables etc. The screen that I mentioned in my post doesn't always come on now. Sometimes I don't even get a video signal and when I take the plug out and start over again, I get the screen the first time. Then it shuts off. If I try and power on again using the power switch on the Case, the fans start up, no beep sounds and no video signal either. It's bizzare.

Now I'm thinking bad mobo or bad powersupply.

I just put in a new Intel d815egwlu mobo and am having some problems, also. When I first installed, the processor fan would come on with no video. Checked all connenctions and tried again. Same deal. Put power supply and video card on another mobo to check if they were working and they both worked fine. So I put it back on new mobo and now the power supply will not come on. Weird. My guess is bad mobo.

Have contacted Intel for support. Don't have high hopes though. They charge $25 per incident (and I don't know what an incident means). Anyway, I plan to take out the CMOS battery and put it back on after sometime (in case it was bad CMOS entry or something). I am running out of ideas and my 30-day warranty from newegg.com is over next week. :-(

It was bad RAM all the while. Now trying to get back the $$ I paid for it on eBay. I should have stuck with newegg.com.
