haha, they're buying everything except any 3dfx liabilities that are still outstanding.
Geeez. What next? Dogs & cats living together?

Can you spell MONOPOLY?!!!Now the only real competition is going to be ATI. nVidia will be able to put whatever price they want to on their products. Sucks for the video card buyer.

Yeah They May be able to put whatever price they want but they still have to face ATI if they charge too much they will end up as 3dfx did. Imagine ATI buying Nvida!

No comment on the buyout but um my dogs and cats do live together. hell they were all cuddled up in a ball in the garge during the snow storm that him this week.

Till now, this had been a fine day. I get back home from a 13 hours shift and I read this.
Over are the days of easy things. My brother acquired a GeForce 2 MX and I had to fight with it for about 2 hours to have it doing OpenGL correctly. Even then, he has to leave his case opened because the **** thing overheats even though it's not overclocked.
When I bought my Voodoo4, I just installed it and that's it, it works.
Really, my next card will surely be a ATI one.

I honestly hope nVidia moves to adopt 3dfx's recent purchased Gigapixel technology into their future prodcut offerings. Certain GP technical documents indicate a potential design for a sustained 25+ GigaTexel/sec fill rate (at an average depth complexity of four)! GP technology workthrough tile-rendering and hardware level data compression.
Imgine the performance of this rendering technology if combined with nVidia's hardware T&L rendering technology! http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Also, for those interested in 3dfx's current corporate position regarding recent and near future activities, I would recommend listening to today's 3dfx investor conference call. Here is an online password-free archive of the call:

Hey now! I remember a certain lot of fellows that weren't all too happy about losing NeXT CPUs to the "giant" AMD. But the aquired engineering skills coupled with what AMD already had is what gave us the current, kick **** technology of the Athlon family.
It might work out fine.
So it's Nvidia, ATi, and Matrox now I guess. Unless you want to count Kyro, it looks like a 49th parallel battle http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
Nvidia has gotten to this position by putting out good products often and to some extent, by being the underdog. I'm curiously waiting to see what kind of price the big N slaps on the NV20. I think that will give a good indication if they'll rule the graphics kingdom with benevolence or not. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Ah, a lesson of life you are now learning...
"Lifetime guaranty" does not mean your lifetime, or even the product's lifetime, what it really means is the manufacturer's lifetime.
True, true ... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
Sad for 3Dfx, used to like 'em, especially with Voodoo2.
Long live new MONOPOLY, NVIDIA Corp. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

****E!
I'll just go and commit suicide now then! The king is dead, the future is bleak!
They were good days, but I guess everything dies some time!

Hmm, I guess I'll scratch off 3fx as the choice in the future for my next Comp http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
I am very pleased with their 5500, I hope the next card I get will be as stable as this one.
