I received solicitation to hook up with Winfire DSL. Free service (with banner ads) = 144 Kbps. Intermediate service = 348 Kbps at 19.95 per month (no ads). 1.5 Mbps = 34.95 per month with free modem. With "free" DSL option, DSL modem costs $199.00 plus tax. Any opinions about this solicitation? Anyone tried this yet?
Thanks!

no I havent tried it, but the family here
wants to.
1. the free option is the worst. 144k
is 3 times better than 56k modem, not much of an improvement. the $200 modem price is
ridiculous. And the banner ads cover the back
and forward buttons, which for me is
unacceptable.
2. the intermediate option is a good deal. only $10 more than I pay per month for
ad- free Juno and 7 times as fast.
3.the $35 /month option is also a good deal
cheaper than any other dsl I can get here.

Thanks, Capybara. I was psyched about the $19.95 per month option, pretty much sharing your sentiments regarding banner ads and modem prices. Only to discover that the DSL service is available two streets away from my house, but not yet to block! Grr!
