What is the memory limit for Win 98SE? I have 256 of DDR now, but have been advised not to go any higher with that OS. I am planning to add a 60Gig HDD to partition, and run 98SE and XP, but I want to have 512 of DDR for XP. Will this create a conflict? Or will the partition take care of portioning out the memory?
I may have posted this question before, but have had a senior moment after getting a reply;) .
Thanx

Looks like you can run 512 mb without problems.

RUNNING ON IWILL K266-6 MB
512 MEGS OF CRUCIAL PC133 SDRAM WITH NO PROBLEMS. HAVE ALSO ADDED ANOTHER 256 MEGS OF PC100 RAM AND STILL RAN WITH NO PROBLEMS. BUT WIN98-SE WON'T RUN ANY MORE EMORY ABOVE THAT. BEST BET. STICK WITH 512 MEGS. IT'S NOT THE MB THAT'S THE PROBLEM. IT'S WINDOWS 98 ITSELF. HOPE THIS HELPS.:D

Windows 98, 98SE and ME will not be stable with more than about 512m. There is a bug in the memory handling code that will cause it to crash. You're even safer just running 384M. This was fixed in 2000 and XP. I'm running 1.5G on 2000 with no problems.

The oldest component of my system I have is Win98SE.
What can i say it's my favourite. It works fine with anything up to 512MB of PC100 PC133 PC2100 RAM.........and why would you need mroe than 512MB unless you are running a NASA server ?
I usually never use more than 256MB of DDR RAM..... so theres no problems with the max RAM capacity for Win98SE.

I'm running Win98 with 640Mb of 133Mhz SDRAM with no problems. I have my swap file fixed at 256Mbs and my disk cache fixed at 32Mb.

Most of Micro's OS's I've seen can't handle over 3xxMb RAM

I do have the occasional lockup in windows 98se with 512 pc2100.. but I can't really attribute it to the ram. On my old computer I had 384 and also had the occasional lockup... but it was an unstable piece of junk gateway that got more stable as i went from 128 to 256 to 384.

I run 448mb in windows ME, 512mb caused bugs to pop up. Use 256mb,128m and 64mb. Works the best. In my system. I think the 64bm more would not do that much anyway,. So my vote in windows ME run exactly 448mb. :p :D :) :o
