I'm building my first PC and have a basis question or 2. I will be replacing a 1.5 G WD with a 30 G quantim as part of the new sys build. Q1 How should I partion the new 30G HHD? One big one ? or multiple smaller ones? Q2 What is the best way to copy the contents of the 1.5 to the new HHD? Thanks

I pretty much just did the same thing.

I always thought that partitions were just for organization. My old hd was a 10gb Quantum and new one was 45gb IBM. I set the IBM as slave and partioned it three ways (about 15gb each partion). Once that was all set, I used the following technique to copy files to my new hd:

It is ridiculously simple. After that was done, I set the IBM as master and the Quantum as slave.

Warthog,
Thanks for the site & guidance. So when I put this together for the first time I use the old HD as the master and the new HD as slave or do I need to get the new system running with only the old HD then add the new as slave then follow the instructions?
